- "This oversize plat book was assembled by the office of the City Surveyor in the City Engineer's Office. While the date span is technically correct, most of the plats in the book are copies--late 19th and early 20th century tracings and renderings of earlier plats; the earliest originals appear to date from the early 19th century. All plats are of property within the city of Charleston, ranging from individual parcles, or pieces of parcels, to whole neighborhoods--encompassing original paper copies pasted in, tracings on linen, and blueprints."
- "The index is an alphabetical listing by street, with descriptions of the parcel referenced--such as North or South side of the street, at a particular corner, etc. Often the owner of the parcel is noted, along with the date and the surveyor."
