- "The King Street Façade program was implemented in 1980 by the City of Charleston to help stimulate the rehabilitation of buildings on King Street between Calhoun and George Streets. The impetus to create the program was based on the inappropriate architectural changes that had been wrought on many of the City's commercial buildings, leading to an overall deterioration in the appearance of downtown. The following photographs and rectified photographs resulted from the King Street Façade program. They show buildings on King Street between Calhoun and Market Street as the appeared at the time (1980 and 1981). In the initial phase of the program (King to George Street), the images were rectified to show what should be done to restore the buildings to their authentic appearance. In the next phase, the buildings from George to Market Street were photographed but not rectified. The images have been arranged in street address order. In the cases in which a rear or side view is included (not a King Street address), the view is included after the King Street (front elevation) view."--Film leader
