Summary
"The Ashepoo Phosphate/Fertilizer Works (Ashepoo Phosphate) site is located at the western end of Braswell Street in Charleston, South Carolina on the Ashley River. From 1882 until the 1970's, several companies produced phosphate fertilizer using phosphate rock mined nearby and sulfuric acid produced on-site. ... Due to the existing contamination on-site and in runoff pathways leading to perennial surface water, the Ashepoo Phosphate site is given a high priority for further Federal Superfund activity."--Scope of work, p. 1/8/0003
