Summary
"Strawberry and the Charleston were written after a 'lo-o-ong search' into my family's background. My mother was born in Mount-Holly-Strawberry, daddy was born in Greenpond; near Savannah, G.A. However they met in the City of Charleston, S.C. sometime around 1925. Much to my frustration, hard documents were oblivioned. However, it was my objective in my search to sink my teeth into something firm. I found a family in the Strawberry area that knew my mother, and the Oliver family. This piece comes from seventeen years of just researching South Carolina; and listening to Mr. Bryant's account of my mother and his growing up together. Their life style back then, and the custom under which they lived."
