Chiefly illustrations"In 1997, a South Carolina Historic Resource Survey was compiled through a joint effort between Dorchester County and Preservation Consultants, Inc. of Charleston. The survey area included approximately 575 square miles. Photographs of 1186 sites were made along with historical research of the listed sites. Phyllis Hughes, President of UDCHS became aware of the survey and brought this to the attention of the society members. In early 2004, Wallace Kizer made the suggestion to compile and publish a pictorial directory of historic homes and sites in Upper Dorchester County.
