"The first version of this book was published, as The Oxford literary guide to the British Isles, in 1977; it was compiled and edited by Dorothy Eagle and Hilary Carnell. Reprinted with amendments in the following year, it appeared as a paperback under the same editorship in 1980 and was again reprinted, with corrections by Dorothy Eagle, in 1988. There was also an illustrated edition, entitled The Oxford illustrated literary guide to Great Britain and Ireland, which was revised by Dorothy Eagle and published in a larger format in 1981: it is this version which is republished now....
