Summary
Reformed Church "missionaries were sent into Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois to establish churches in new communities. In order to support these missionary activities at home and abroad, a newspaper was begun in 1827. In 1835 the newspaper office was moved to Chambersburg, PA, and the paper was renamed 'The Weekly Messenger of the German Reformed Church' ... The issues abstracted for this book contained items from more than 22 states and territories and 12 countries, primarily PA, MD, OH, NY, VA, and NC"--Introduction"Ministers sending subscriptions and payments to the editor included marriage and death notices about people in the communities that they served, and were not limited to members of their church. Lists of victims of train and boat accidents, and natural disasters were printed, as well as acknowledgments of suscriptions [sic] and charitable contributions"--Introduction
